The city of foxes is filled with wolves
In September 2021 I started working on a new project in Lysychansk, that I could never continue due to russia starting it's full-scale war on Ukraine.
Lysychansk, located in Luhansk region, Donbas, was already heavily affected by the war in 2014 and under occupation for a few months. A lot of people fled back then, leaving behind abandoned houses and packs of stray dogs, that roam the streets like little wolves.
A group of artists called `Gareleya` founded by Vitalii Matukhno started organizing exhibitions in these abandoned buildings, filling these empty places with creativity. There were a lot of things happening in the region, lots of activists and artists building up things and making a difference for their beloved hometowns.
Lysychansk was an amazing place, a sad place at first glance maybe, but it was so much more than that.
Since 2022 the city has been largely destroyed by russia and remains under russian occupation.
Once again I find my self without words. No pictures or words could possibly sum up what has been lost.
These are pictures of a world that doesn't exist anymore.
